Before you try to get your book published, you should definitely be aware of a few things about the book publishing industry in general, and the editors and publishers that work for them.
First, book publishing companies get a LOT of submissions each month. By a lot, I mean far more than they can take the time to read and still do the other tasks involved in their jobs.
Those publishers that still accept unagented submissions usually have someone -either a secretary or an intern – whip through the submissions first to get rid of anything that is obviously not of interest, so if you send the wrong genre to the wrong publisher, no one of influence is ever going to lay eyes on it.
Those few publishers who accept unsolicited submissions also have very, very clear guidelines on what to send and how, and so few people seem to read those guideines that if you actually do have a book that fits in their guidelines and submit it the way they request, you’re actually one of a minority.

Writing can be a very solitary task, which is why most people who do it for a living experience varying degrees of panic and anxiety. Unfortunately, the stereotype of the alcoholic writer is grounded in reality. Many famous writers have been alcoholics, including Ernest Hemingway and Stephen King. (King even admits in his non-fiction book On Writing that he doesn’t even remember writing the novel Cujo.)
The important thing that a writer must do to battle the lonely hours of writing is to develop a positive social life. The best way to do so is to have a routine where you actually get out of the house and go where there are people for at least an hour a day.
While most people are surrounded by others at their jobs, writers must face their work alone. Don’t let it get to you. Try to meet one new person every day. And whatever you do, no matter how romantic it seems, don’t grab the bottle when you feel panic and anxiety coming on. Go out, get some fresh air, and talk to people instead.

I’m a busy mother of three. Between carting my children to school and after school activities, my job, house work, cooking, and cleaning, I hardly ever have time for myself. I’ve enjoyed reading since I was a young child myself. I don’t have time to visit library circles anymore, so I was thrilled to turn to online book clubs.
